The lamp of God’s word is flamed with covenant promises. Illuminating the path before us, the church walks by faith, not by sight. But what does it look like when God’s good word transitions from promise to fulfillment? With types and shadows the history of Joshua provides us a foretaste. It assures us that God himself will fulfill his word through an appointed leader to bring his people into his promised rest to glorify and enjoy him unending. “Not one word of all the good promises that the LORD had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass” (Josh. 21:45). And all will come to pass through a greater Joshua, Jesus Christ the Lord.
