The Lord Jesus was falsely accused and suffered the bitterest injustice at the hands of wicked men.
The great goal of Satan was to taint the offering that Jesus would make for His people. To that end, the devil tempted Christ for 40 days, urging Him to abuse His miracle powers to satisfy Himself, to seize by illegitimate means what was already promised Him, and to presume upon the promises of God to uphold Him in all things.
Praise God, the devil couldn't tempt our Lord Jesus to sin! Christ remains for all time morally perfect, totally obedient to His Father, and righteousness itself!
Satan had his minions try to trip up the Savior, but instead, Jesus pointed out their sin, and who they obeyed - Satan their father. Jesus asserted that no man could convict Him of sin, and no man ever could.
In all this, Christ was proved to be noble and worthy to save His people, and to help us in time of weakness and temptation. He was tempted in all points like we are, yet without sin.
Thus, Satan's futile efforts only enhance the glory and suitability of our Redeemer to save us.
The only thing left was to unjustly accuse and corruptly convict Jesus of crimes He never committed, and then put Him to death for those fictitious sins. This they did, when they crucified Him at Calvary.
Imagine the danger we all were in: Satan and cohorts sought to blemish God's Lamb, so that He would be an unworthy sacrifice to save us. God's Word is clear: He will only accept a spotless, perfect sacrifice.
If Christ had been guilty as they falsely claimed, He could not have taken away our sin, and we would be forever doomed to judgment.
Praise God, the Devil failed completely!
