In 2 Timothy 2, Paul lists eight key characteristics of a life strong in grace. The previous two messages in this series focused on the first five traits of a life strong in grace:
(1) Outspoken - like a faithful witness.
(2) Focused - like a soldier.
(3) Disciplined - like an athlete.
(4) Hard-working - like a farmer
(5) Steadfast - like Paul
Now, this final message in the series focuses on the last three traits as follows:
(1) Like a workman who is unashamed of his quality work, we need to apply ourselves with diligence to the Sriptures. We are to stick strictly to the text of the Word (which is the actual meaning of 'rightly dividing' the Word).
(2) Like a chosen vessel fit for the Master's use, we are to be holy, meaning that we are to practice both ecclesiastical and personal separation from the world and instead be dedicated to God and His people.
(3) Like a servant, we are to serve humbly. We must recognize that the goal is not to win arguments, but simply to be a help and a blessing to the lost as we try to point them to Christ.
