- CHRIST's PRAYER
One of Christ's greatest prayers - it was prayed amidst the pressure and burden of what lay ahead at Calvary.
- CHRIST's PETITION
Christ would have to leave His people physically, and He would pray the Father for a Comforter Who would abide with them forever.
This prayer was answered initially at Pentecost.
- CHRIST's PROMISE
"...He shall give you another Comforter..." (v16)
"Comforter" - Greek text - "Paraclete" - refers to one with capability of assisting another in need.
- CHRIST's PROHIBITION
The world cannot receive the Holy Spirit - only the new creature in Christ, when the Spirit enters a heart purified by the Blood of Christ.
The worldly grieve, vex, lie to, resist and tempt the Spirit of God.
- CHRIST's PLEDGE
"Ye know Him" (v17)
The Church needs a deeper, fuller knowledge of the Spirit of God.
A Gospel filled with the Holy Ghost can wreck the power of sin and set the vilest sinner free.
- CHRIST's POWER
"...He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you...." (v17)
Where there are Spirit-filled believers, they will shake their district for Christ.
We need to cry out for a special operation of the Holy Spirit in our lives and others. There is no half-way house in this matter.
If you are unsaved, remember that the Spirit of God will not always strive with man.
Have you counted the cost ?
Come now, while the Spirit tenderly invites you to the Cross - before it is forever too late.
