This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
Morning of May 19, 2022. Taking a walk this hot and muggy morning, I came across a gust of wind. It was very welcome. Made me think of how wonderfully wind portrays the Spirit. It is life-giving, refreshing, unpredictable, powerful. You can’t start it, you can’t stop it, you can only enjoy it.
The Lord continues to work on my own heart day by day. I'm thankful for it. Without the constant ploughing up of my heart, I am always at risk of becoming "fallow ground" and, ultimately, unfruitful. The Lord is patient with us but He does desire to see fruit, as it says in Luke 13:7, "Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth the ground?" What does fruitfulness look like in your life? How do you fit in this parable? Does it apply to you at all?
The Lord desires fruit and He is patient in ploughing up, breaking up, digging up, and fertilizing the ground with the Good Word. What more does He need to do? "If it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down." Let the Holy Spirit make the application as only He can to your own life. But I take it to heart. I want to see God work in me and through me only those things that can be attributed to the Almighty. Don't you? For me, this means less human effort, and more prayer effort. I don't want a life that can be explained by tapes and measures, calculators and computers, indicators and predicators. I want the Lord to bust up all of our carefully-crafted house of cards and show us who is God.
In connection with that, I'd like to "start over." This will be the last of the emails being sent to the current email list. I have cleared the list, so we are now back to 0 again. If you would like to continue to receive emails from time to time, please just reply asking to be re-signed up to the list. But I would kindly ask that only those that can actually be on the call (at least once a month) be included in this list.
As helpful as it can be, I will also make this the last time we include prayer requests in the emails. I would like to encourage those with requests to voice them in prayer. Let us try this for a while, shall we?
If you are so inclined, let us continue to wait patiently for the Lord. He is our help and our deliverer. "Make no tarrying, O my God." Psalm 40.
