This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
"This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee." Deuteronomy 2:25.
If you haven't noticed, we are living in a world where men and women are consumed with what others think about them. This seems to be the whole driving "secret sauce" of social media. If there were not the mechanism of "LIKES" and "REACTIONS" to the things that we post, it wouldn't be half as powerful as it is today. We work very hard on our reputation, and if we're honest, it is often the greatest stumbling block to our obedience to Christ. But this verse shows us that reputation is not something that we can control. It is something that is squarely in the hands of God. The Lord says, "This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations." God Himself will put this venerated reputation into the hearts of those around them. Today, God's people are despised. God's law is despised. God Himself is despised. We must pray that the Lord will begin to plant the fear of God into the nations. We cannot make this happen. This is His work to do. And this is why we pray.
